چکیده

ABSTRACT Ultracompact X-ray binaries (UCXBs) are low-mass with hydrogen-deficient mass donors and ultrashort orbital periods. They have been suggested to be the potential Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) sources in low-frequency region. Several channels for formation of UCXBs proposed so far. In this paper, we carried out a systematic study on He star donor channel, which neutron (NS) accretes matter from main-sequence (MS) through Roche lobe overflow, where transfer is driven by gravitational wave radiation. First, followed long-term evolution NS+He MS employing stellar code Modules Experiments Stellar Astrophysics (mesa ), thereby obtained initial parameter spaces production UCXBs. We then used these results perform detailed binary population synthesis approach obtain Galactic rates channel. estimate appearing as LISA ${\sim} 3.1\!-\!11.9\, \rm Myr^{-1}$ number such UCXB-LISA Galaxy can reach about 1–26 calibrated observations. This work indicates that channel may contribute significantly UCXB rate. found evolutionary tracks account location five transient relatively long periods quite well. also identified their locations mass-transfer rate versus period diagram.

Formation of Ultracompact X-ray Binaries in Dense Star Clusters

Bright, ultracompact X-ray binaries observed in dense star clusters, such as Galactic globular clusters, must have formed relatively recently, since their lifetimes as persistent bright sources are short (e.g., ∼ 108 yr above 1036 ergs−1 for a 1.4M⊙ neutron star accreting from a degenerate helium companion with an initial mass of ∼ 0.2M⊙). Therefore, we can use the present conditions in a clust...

Six new candidate ultracompact X - ray binaries

Ultracompact X-ray binaries (UCXBs) appear able to sustain accretion onto the compact accretor at rates lower than in wider X-ray binaries. This may be understood by the smaller accretion disks in UCXBs: a lower X-ray luminosity suffices to keep a disk completely ionized through irradiation and, thus, keep the viscosity at a sufficiently high level to allow effective transport of matter to the ...

The evolution of ultracompact X-ray binaries

Context. Ultracompact X-ray binaries (UCXBs) typically consist of a white dwarf donor and a neutron star or black hole accretor. The evolution of UCXBs and very low mass ratio binaries in general is poorly understood. In particular, the dynamical behavior of an accretion disk extending to a large radius (relative to the orbit) is unclear. Aims. We investigate the evolution of UCXBs in order to ...

Low Mass X-ray Binaries with Pre-main Sequence Companions

In this Letter we examine the idea that a subset of short-period black-hole low-mass X-ray binaries could be powered by the mass transfer from pre-main sequence donors. As the star contracts towards the main sequence, the strong magnetic fields operate the magnetic braking which dissipates the orbital angular momentum, driving the binary to contact. We show that the periods and apparent donor s...

Hot White Dwarf Donors in Ultracompact X-ray Binaries

The discovery of two accreting millisecond X-ray pulsars in binaries with ≈ 43 minute orbital periods allows for a new probe of the donor’s structure. For XTE J1751-305, only a hot white dwarf (WD) can fill the Roche Lobe. A cold He WD is a possible solution for XTE J0929-314, though I will show that evolutionary arguments make a hot WD more likely. In addition to being larger than the T = 0 mo...
